U-Pick Oranges at La Verne Heritage Foundation
It’s Orange Season!! Since we love Orange County, we couldn’t miss taking the kids orange picking this weekend in La Verne. It is just about an hour drive out of Orange County, and worth every moment creating memories in the u-pick oranges grove preserved by the La Verne Heritage Foundation.
The u-pick orange grove is open to the public on Saturdays (during the season) from 9 am to 3 pm. The cost is just $5 a bag, and my two kids spent hours frolicking around the groves while trying to find the perfect oranges to bring home.
Before we got started, we were able to enjoy a complimentary tour of the famous Weber House. The tours are available on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. The Weber House is one of the oldest houses in La Verne that was home to the orange grove farmer, John Weber. The tour guide walked our kids through the house, talked to them about the history, and showed them all the items in the house along with how they used them back in the early years (our kids favorite was seeing the inside of the ice box that didn’t use electricity).
Then it was time for some u-pick fun! The kids enjoyed a couple of tastes at the sample table, got their picking sticks, and then headed into the groves. The trees were full of oranges, and every single orange was picked with love.
Once we were done picking the oranges, we looked around the farm to see chickens, a vegetable garden, and even an old barn.
It was a day full of fun, memories and history. For families who are visiting with younger children, there is a playground next to the orange groves where children can play or your family can have a picnic.
The La Verne Heritage Foundation u-pick orange groves are open on Saturdays from 9 am to 3 pm. It is located at 5001 Via de Mansion, La Verne, CA 91750. Hurry.. come next weekend before all the oranges have been picked!
