Enjoy live entertainment, activities, and crafts as well as your favorite Chanukah treats – latkes, dreidles, and more! Bring your family, friends, and lots of holiday spirit!

Pretend City ‘s Hurray for Chanukah! including an Olive Press Workshop

December 6 – 14, 10:00am – 5:00pm, Free with museum admission

Happy Chanukah! Celebrate Chanukah at Pretend City in Irvine. Your child will love these rich and diverse activities about the Hanukkah miracle and the importance of many of the traditions of the holiday. We’ll have fun learning about this wonderful holiday through games, finger play rhymes, art projects and activities. There will be a special activity each day.

December 8, 3:30pm – 5:00pm, Olive Press Workshop, Free with museum admission

In honor of the miracle which occurred with oil, Pretend City hosts the Olive Press Workshop. Children will be taken back to a time of chance, drama and triumph! They will laugh, thrill and cheer as the adventure of Chanukah unfolds. They will also learn customs and traditions associated with Chanukah all while making olive oil for the Menorah.

Pretend City’s Christmas Countdown including a celebration of Las Posadas

December 12 – 23, 10:00am – 5:00pm, Free with museum admission

It’s time to begin the 12 days of Christmas Countdown at Pretend City in Irvine! The days that lead up to Christmas are an exciting and magical time for young children. Join us each day as we “unwrap” a new activity that celebrates the season. By the end of our Christmas Countdown, we’ll be as excited and full of Christmas spirit as Buddy the Elf! There will be a special activity each day.

December 16, 10:00am – 5:00pm, Celebrate Las Posadas!, Free with museum admission

Who’s ready for our annual Las Posadas celebration? Come to Pretend City with your family to celebrate the first day of this 9 day Mexican Christmas celebration. Through special activities and events your children will have fun learning about the history of this celebration.

Mount of Olives Lutheran Church Drive-thru Nativity

December 18 – 19, 6:00pm – 10:00pm, Free

Experience this life-size retelling of the Christmas Story from the comfort of your car. Live actors, animals and narration through your car radio!
You can also enjoy the Drive-thru Nativity on foot. We’re collecting non-perishable food donations to support local families in need.

Pretend City’s Festival of Kwanzaa

December 26 – 30, 10:00am – 5:00pm, Free with museum admission

Kwanzaa is here, and there are so many fun things to do! Join us each day during the Festival of Kwanzaa to “light” a candle on the Kinara. Every day, we’ll celebrate a new Kwanzaa principle through a variety of activities including working at the family stand, making gifts for family and friends, playing Kwanzaa games, and even having a “feast”! These daily activities are a perfect way to begin teaching your children about the meaning and traditions of this joyous holiday.
