Unveiling the Newest Spring Lash Trends at The Lash Spot Spa

Lash-Spot

When it comes to make-up I prefer a more natural look…on myself at least. Mascara, bronzer and lipstick for a pop of color, and maybe a little earth-toned eye shadow and I’m out the door. When I’m going all out, I’ll add some eyeliner, fill in my eyebrows a bit, even out my skin with some loose mineral powder, and add some extra mascara.

Even with a minimalist approach however, I do have to spend some time on my eyelashes. One thing I’ve frequently thought is how nice it would be to just jump up, throw my hair up, slap on some lipstick and go. Unfortunately, my lashes are short and fine, and they don’t have much curl to them, so my eyes look terrible with no mascara. Even more unfortunate is how often I think I can sneak out of the house with no make-up on other than lipstick, without getting caught.

Beach and pool days can be a dilemma also. Who wants mascara smudged down their eyes once they get pummeled by a wave or inevitably get dunked in the pool? Isn’t bad hair enough?

So I already had it in the back of my head that maybe I should try lash extensions when Lash Spot Spa in Costa Mesa hosted an event offering a consultation with complimentary mini-lash extensions. Perfect! This was my opportunity to get a glimpse first hand of what the process involves, how it feels to have the lashes applied, how they look on, and learn a little about new trends.

After checking in, I was escorted back to a private room with a table to lie back on during the application. Relaxing music was playing in the background and my Certified Lash Extensionist, Karen asked me to close my eyes.  She placed a strip underneath each eye to protect the bottom lashes and began adding the extensions.

It was somewhat relaxing and I could have taken a nap, but I was more interested in talking to Karen, who surprisingly told me I actually do have a lot of lashes, but they’re fine and light. To add some length and darken them, she attached extensions to about 20 individual lashes per eye and then dried them with gently applied cool air. I was advised to avoid getting water on the lashes for 24 hours and that, while mascara on the ends is fine, it should not be waterproof.

With just a set of mini extensions, my lashes now appear longer and darker as if I have put on a light coat of mascara. As of today, I’ve had the lashes for five days and while I have added a little mascara for going out in the evenings, I am confident going without during the day for casual running around. They should fall out as the real lashes they are attached to do naturally, and so far I have not lost any that I know of. While this process took about 20 minutes, application of a full set does take a couple of hours or more depending on they type of extensions you are getting. Regular appointments are required if you wish to maintain the lashes and you can extend the length of time they last by getting fills in between.

While I tend toward a more natural look, if you’re looking for something with more impact, one of the latest trends The Lash Spot offers is 2D, 3D and even 4D lash extensions. These vary in length and are super fine and light, so that several lashes can be adhered per single lash of your own giving you long, voluminous lashes. And if you’re looking for some fun, they even come in different colors. Pink lashes anyone?

The Lash Spot Spa is located in Costa Mesa at 435 E 17th Street.
