Versatile 2016 Hyundai Sonata Eco
Test vehicle provided
Last month, our family put the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Eco to the test by seeing how versatile the popular mid-sedan can be. Our family packed the trunk full of luggage and took it with us camping for a week. Normally, I would never trust taking anything smaller than an SUV or minivan camping, but this car far exceeded my expectations and provided plenty of space for all our camping needs.
It is not just the trunk of the Hyundai Sonata Eco that is large but also the interior. As my children are turning into teenagers, they’re needing more and more legroom. The car was able to fit my family of five comfortably during the 4-5 hour road trip to our camping destination.
The best part of the Hyundai Sonata Eco is the gas mileage. We took the car from Orange County to the super bloom happening in Death Valley to camping in Santa Barbara and then back home on just two tanks of gas. I have never driven a car with could get the amount of gas mileage per tank as the Hyundai Sonata Eco got for us. While the car featured an 185-hp, 2.4L, 4-cyclinder engine, it was a powerhouse of performance. If I hadn’t known that it was a 4-cyclinder driving force, I would have easier thought I was driving a 6-cylinder.
While driving the car on the freeway, I felt at ease knowing that my family was safe because of the cars seven airbags. The car creates a “pillow effect” in the event of an accident and deploys one or all of its seven airbags. The car features driver’s knee, driver and front passenger, front seat side-mounted and front and rear curtain airbags.
We took the Hyundai Sonata through Death Valley National Park and the lush mountains of Santa Barbara. The car has a sleek body design that hugs that road and blends in with the beautiful landscaping of the areas we explored.
Finally, there is the sticker price. The Hyundai Sonata Eco comes priced starting at $21,750 making it an attractively priced car for a teenager’s first car.
