Visit Winnie-the-Pooh’s Hundred Acre Wood in England

It has been nine years since I last visited my family in London.  We are a close-knit bunch and spend every day together.  The last time we were there my children were 1 and 4 which meant that every day was spent in a park.   My aunt Barbara told us about this enchanting park that she felt the children would love so we headed out to Aldenham Country Park in Hertfordshire to visit the 100 Aker Wood.  Now if that sounds a bit familiar it may be due to a little song that starts off like this:

Deep in the hundred acre wood

Where Christopher Robin plays, you will find the enchanted neighborhood of Christopher’s childhood days

A donkey named Eeyore is his friend.

And Kanga and little Roo.

There’s Rabbit.

and Piglet

And there’s Owl

But most of all Winnie the Pooh (and guess what Pooh was home sleeping)

That’s right this amazing little section of the park was created for the inner child in all of us.  My family loved the park so much that 9 years later we once again made the trip out to relieve the magic and even found HONEY!

My son is now 13, and he still felt the excitement as we walked along the trail to find the homes of the various characters from Winnie the Pooh.

The park did a really excellent job incorporating the story into the trail and even had letterboxes for some of the characters to that children could write them.

I highly recommend that you bring a lovely picnic so that once you’ve explored the 100 Aker Woods, you could enjoy your meal in the most perfect little spot.

We arrived at the park at 4:00 and sadly missed Pooh, but if you get there around 2:00 pm on the weekend you can have a visit and take a selfie with “Pooh at 2”.  Aldenham Country Park is 12 miles from central London.  It took us about an hour to get there via car, and from what my aunt told me, bus access to the park are few and in between so a car would be your best bet for a visit. The 100 Aker wood is just a small part if this beautiful country park.  The park is truly 100 acres and provides camping, pony rides, hiking and much much more. Don’t miss seeing Chrisopher Robin in theatres everywhere on August 3rd!
