Waldorf Inspired Art and Play Area at Granola Babies
I’m always looking for a creative outlet to experience with my kids, so today while the boys were at school, my daughter and I stopped by Granola Babies, Orange County’s largest natural parenting store.
I was surprised to find so much variety in one little shop. I went to Granola Babies for the indoor play area, but discovered so much more. Granola Babies stocks organic and locally made clothing and products, large supply of cloth diapers, an Herbal Bar and other natural remedies, as well as, toys and books.
I was intrigued by the small sign above a door that read “Community Room”. I was impressed to find that the Community Room hosted a wide variety of events; classes on vaccination education, breast feeding classes and new mommy support group, how to use cloth diapers, story time on Wednesdays, baby and prenatal yoga. What is a fantastic resource!
After exploring the store, my daughter Sarah, age 4, and I spent most of our visit in the play area that inspired creativity and pretend play. The play area follows the Waldorf Philosophy, learning through active and creative open-ended play, is $5.00 and open for kids 9 months to 5 years of age.
Sarah painted, “cooked” in the kitchen, we built homes for the dinosaurs and other animals from wooden blocks. We utilized the offerings available in the craft area: tape, buttons, wooden shapes and sticks, yarn, goggle-eye stickers, puffed balls, scissors and glue … lots of glue! She practiced writing on the chalk board; we enjoyed a quick story in the reading nook before she left me to continue creating. I can’t wait to return with friends, we found a treasure today.
