Want To Grow Indoor Plants? Here’s A List Of The Ones That Can Easily Survive In Low Light

Many people know that plants need sunlight to grow; without proper light, plants wouldn’t survive, just as we wouldn’t without food. Although that’s true for most plants, some of them can survive indoors with little or no light. So if you don’t have a garden or a balcony, you can still grow plants inside your house. Some plants even do better in shade than in sunlight, others might need artificial light. However, these plants usually need some extra care to stay alive. If you dream of having a garden but you don’t have the place for it, here’s a list of plants that can easily grow indoors in low light.

Aglaonema

Aglaonema commutatum, also known as Chinese evergreen or philippine evergreen, is a decorative plant that’s known for its attractiveness and beautiful leaves. You have probably seen these beautiful plants before as they are very popular indoor plants. The Chinese evergreen is popular for its large, narrow, and shiny leaves with its light and dark green mix. On some older plants, colorful flowers bloom in the summer.

You can easily care for the Chinese evergreen as long as you know what it needs. If the leaves have very light green on them, it means it needs more sunlight. If they’re dark green, it means that they need little sunlight and can grow in a near-shade area. So when getting one, choose one that suits the area you have for this plant. Apart from that, the plant will grow all year long as long as you keep it warm and moist. Keep away from pets as the plant is poisonous for them.

Hydrangea Serrata

The popular name for Hydrangea Serrata is tea heaven. This plant is famous for its small bright flowers that bloom during summer till early winter. The flowers can grow to be either blue or pink based on the soil. Alkaline soil will produce pink flowers, while acidic soil produces blue blooms. However, this plant is poisonous for both humans and pets, so it’s better to keep it on a shelf or in any high place.

To care for this plant, you need to ensure that the soil is always moist, either by watering it every three days or every week based on the dryness of the soil. Although it’s easy to maintain this plant you still need to read up on some hydrangea Serrata care tips before committing yourself to one. A shaded area with indirect sunlight would be the ideal place for it to grow. However, you will need to make sure that you get the right soil for it. This plant can grow in light or heavy soil but choosing which one depends on its place and the type of care you can provide.

Bird’s Nest Fern

Asplenium nidus or bird’s nest fern plants are air plants. Air plant means that it grows on another plant, object, or any physical support, it cannot grow on its own. In its natural home, the bird’s nest fern grows in the crooks of trees and can grow up to five feet tall. However, with the right soil and care, you’ll be able to grow the Asplenium nidus. This plant doesn’t need direct sunlight, but it needs constant humidity. Owners of this plant prefer to keep it in a bathroom near the shower or tub so it gets the humidity and moisture it needs without you doing anything,

Dracaena

Dracaena reflexa is a very popular plant among gardeners and plant owners as this plant can grow both indoor and outdoor.  It has a bushy tree type of look with shiny leaves. Its height can reach three feet indoors and four or five feet outdoors. There are around 40 species of dracaena, some of them have the same shape and height, while others may be shorter, wider, or narrower. It grows perfectly in a semi-shade area or filtered light. Direct sunlight can damage, and dry the leaves.

Unlike other plants, Dracaena plants don’t require moist soil. You will only need to keep the leaves hydrated by misting them and the soil is a little misted. If the leaves are falling or turning yellow, it means that you’re overwatering the plant and need to reduce the amount of water.

Caring for plants and flowers is never easy. Although some plants may need watering once a week, others need constant care and maintenance. Before getting any plant, do a little research on how to care for it to know whether you’ll be able to do it or not. There are several indoor plants with different needs, you just need to choose the right one for your lifestyle. However, some of them are toxic for humans and pets when eaten, so if you have kids or pets, it’s better to keep them away from them to ensure their safety.
