Happy Spring! As of Friday the 20th, Spring is officially here! There are numerous spring or Easter related activities taking place this week. I am looking forward to the Swallows Day Parade in San Juan Capistrano this Saturday as my older son will be marching with his school’s band. Let’s celebrate spring by getting outside and getting active with our kids! Enjoy your week!

A madcap adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic! Alice chases the White Rabbit down a hole and discovers a world filled with strange creatures and even stranger poetry. Your favorite characters, such as the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts, are joined by lesser-known ones, including the Pigeon and the Nanny in Duchess’ kitchen. Just in time for Alice’s 150th “birthday,” this coming-of-age adventure is a fun-filled experience for the whole family, and the perfect way to kick off Chance’s new Theater for Young Audiences Series. Performances run March 21 – 29, 2015. Approximate running time is 1 hour with no intermissions. See the website for details and ticket information.

Open daily Saturday, March 14th – Saturday, April 4th. Note: Irvine Regional Park and Irvine Park Railroad will be open on Easter Sunday, however, the Easter Eggstravaganza events will not be open on Easter Sunday. This event is held inside of Locomotive Loop… just behind the train station. Event time is 10:00am – 6:00pm. Tickets for most activities are $5.00 each or purchase a book of 15 tickets for $60.00. Children’s Museum at La Habra

Our mission
is to encourage enthusiasm about learning in a hands-on environment that opens the world even to the youngest child. Our museum features 7 galleries and 14 different hands on exhibits, many of which remain unique to the field today. In addition to these exhibits, an outdoor dinosaur topiary and historic 1942 caboose, the Museum features an exhibit which changes 3 times a year. The Children’s Museum welcomes local, national and international visitors. Children can ride a kid-size carousel, take a walk in T-Rex’s footprints, pet an Arctic fox, pump gas, drive a bus, dress up and perform, and dig for fossils all in one afternoon! The fall exhibit is Destination: Space and it runs through March 8.

Wednesday, March 18: Little Picasso Family Art Center – Make a “paint” date every Wednesday (11:00am – 3:00pm) at the Museum for lots of messy time exploring color and texture! There are easels, washable paints, brushes and paint smocks ready for little artists to use. This is a drop in art studio and subject to change. All programs free with paid admission (Kids and Adults $8, La Habra residents $7, Kids Under 2 Free).

LEGO Travel Adventure runs January 17 – May 10, 2015. Embark on a travel adventure with LEGO at the Discovery Cube Orange County! You can go anywhere over land, sea, and air by creating extraordinary vehicles to take you where you want to go! To go on a travel adventure to exotic locations, you need to think creatively, plan, and build vehicles to move through all types of terrain, including mountains, oceans, jungles, deserts and more! National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers runs January 17 – May 3, 2015. Travel to the wildest places on earth in National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers. This hands-on exhibition allows you to let your imagination run wild as you become an explorer of the world, taking part in adventures to discover new science and technology. Come follow National Geographic’s explorers as they venture off to dangerous and remote parts of the world!

The newly renovated Kidseum is high-tech and interactive with a focus on its new mission, “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art and archaeology. Be sure to check out the new “Glow Cave” with its fun art making activities, ride the magical Wells Fargo stagecoach through time in the “Green Screen Time Machine,” and explore archaeology like never before in our new Archaeology Lab. There will be a lot of visual stimulation and engaging education with new smart tables, smart boards and computers.

Spirit Kids – Cheer Classes presented by Pacific Coast Magic: Weekly every Friday, March 6th – 27th. Time: 11:00 – 11:30a.m. (class may run over, depending on children’s interest and ability). Specifically for:  Children 3 years of age and up; Grown-up supervision required

This March we have partnered with Pacific Coast Magic, an All-star Cheerleading company, to introduce our youngest cheer friends to this fun sport! Cheerleading is our most energetic class – not to mention the loudest! The tumbles, jumps, chants, and cheers gives your little one a healthy first step towards an active lifestyle. At the same time your child is learning teamwork, trust, and cooperation. Through the guidance of coaches from Pacific Coast Magic, your child’s skills and confidence will grow. Tumbles and movement teach coordination and balance, while the team environment builds trust. This will be a class you won’t want to miss!

Tuesday, March 17: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day! – Green is the color to wear on this fun filled day! Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day through a treasure hunt, Irish art, and leprechaun visits. Today everyone will have the opportunity to participate in:

  • Smart Art: Visit the art studio for a variety of Irish and St. Patrick’s themed art activities for your child to create.
  • Good to Go Activity: Visit the Farm to participate in the Irish Potato Hop. Children will learn a traditional rhyme while working on counting and gross motor skills.
  • Let’s Move: Play the Lucky Leprechaun Game to see if you’re the lucky leprechaun of the day. Participate in this fun St. Patti’s Day group game.

Don’t forget to wear your favorite green costume for an Irish inspired heading home parade! Activities run 10:00am – 4:00pm. RSVP: Not required. Fee: Activities are included with museum admission (Adults and Child 1 and over: $12.50, Infant to 12 months: Free). Wear green for $1 off general admission!

Friday, March 20: Homeschool Field Experience Day – Once a month we offer homeschool students unlimited access to our interactive exhibits offering learning through fun experiences. A field experience to Pretend City Children’s Museum offers your students a learning experience through hands-on educational play. The Pretend City environment allows you to create a plethora of curriculum and activities to surround your students with challenging problems and absorbing questions. Activities occur 10:00am – 5:00pm. RSVP: Register here. Required by the Wednesday, March 18th. Fee: $9.00 per student; $9.00 per adult.

Friday, March 20: Celebrate the First Day of Spring! – Spring is in the air! There’s nothing like those little buds on the trees, butterflies, birds, bees, and the extended hours of daylight. And what better way to celebrate than with a Spring Fling! Join us to celebrate the season with fun activities throughout the day:

  • Music & Movement: Spring Sing – This spring themed circle time will introduce your child to spring songs that will help them remember the concepts of the season.
  • Good to Go Game: Spring Shapes Relay – As children work in cooperation with one another to complete relays they are building upon their social skills. This special relay will work on identifying and matching spring shapes while working together to complete this movement relay.
  • Science Secrets: Planting Party – Spring is the season for growth. Today learn all about the life cycle of a plant through song as you plant your very own take-home flower.
  • Nature Tales: I is for Inchworm – Children will get to observing & interacting with the worms – eew! Or is it? Come find out in the fun, curiosity inspiring, and cool activity time.

Saturday, March 21: Celebrate Persian New Year! – Today we celebrate Norooz, which means “New Day.” This holiday commemorates the Persian New Year and Spring Equinox. This deeply rooted holiday is full of traditions. Join us to learn more:

  • Smart Art: Flowers and fun fill the air during Norooz! These art activities will be a inspired by the Norooz holiday.
  • Cultural Creations: The Haft-seen table is an important part of Norooz celebrations. Today children will have the opportunity to put together their own table while learning about the items which are included.
  • Sensational Story Time: During this story time we will follow seven characters and their friends as they prepare for the annual Norooz celebration. Join us as we read Gala and her Friends Celebrate Norooz!

Sunday, March 22: Celebrate National Goof Off Day! – Here’s a day that just about everybody can relax and enjoy. It’s a day to do anything and everything – except what you’re supposed to do today (assuming you won’t get in trouble). Grown-ups, take the day off from those house-chores and play with your little ones in Pretend City. Fun games, story times, music and movement, and art activities will fill your day. Melt the stresses of adulthood away as you goof-off with your child. It will be a memory your children will cherish! RSVP: Not required. Fee: Activities run 10:00am – 4:00pm and are included with museum admission (Adults and Child 1 and over: $12.50, Infant to 12 months: Free). Yell, “I’m here to goof off!” at the Front Desk to receive 50% off general admission (with purchase of general admission).
