Wow! Lots going on this week! Knott’s Berry Farm’s Boysenberry Festival begins on Saturday. There are numerous spring and Easter events happening this weekend. Discovery Science Center’s super-fun Bubblefest opens this Saturday as well. Check them out and enjoy your week!

Celebrate Knott’s delicious roots during the Boysenberry Festival, March 28 – April 12, in the theme park’s historic Ghost Town. The 16-day and entertainment festival returns with an unforgettable lineup of exquisite Boysenberry Bites, dazzling entertainment, the Wine and Craft Brew Tasting Garden, and more farm fresh fun the whole family will love! Sun up to sun down festival includes dueling fiddlers, Jammin’ in the Dark, Peanuts Party in the Park, vine dancing, swing dancing, live music, and other live entertainment. The Easter Bunny arrives for daily visits and photos in our Spring Garden, located in Macy’s Court, Level 1. Photos available 10:00am – 9:00pm. The Easter Bunny will be there March 21 – April 4, 2015.

A madcap adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic! Alice chases the White Rabbit down a hole and discovers a world filled with strange creatures and even stranger poetry. Your favorite characters, such as the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts, are joined by lesser-known ones, including the Pigeon and the Nanny in Duchess’ kitchen. Just in time for Alice’s 150th “birthday,” this coming-of-age adventure is a fun-filled experience for the whole family, and the perfect way to kick off Chance’s new Theater for Young Audiences Series. Open daily Saturday, March 14th – Saturday, April 4th. Note: Irvine Regional Park and Irvine Park Railroad will be open on Easter Sunday, however, the Easter Eggstravaganza events will not be open on Easter Sunday. This event is held inside of Locomotive Loop… just behind the train station. Event time is 10:00am – 6:00pm. Tickets for most activities are $5.00 each or purchase a book of 15 tickets for $60.00. Our mission
is to encourage enthusiasm about learning in a hands-on environment that opens the world even to the youngest child. Our museum features 7 galleries and 14 different hands on exhibits, many of which remain unique to the field today. In addition to these exhibits, an outdoor dinosaur topiary and historic 1942 caboose, the Museum features an exhibit which changes 3 times a year. The Children’s Museum welcomes local, national and international visitors. Children can ride a kid-size carousel, take a walk in T-Rex’s footprints, pet an Arctic fox, pump gas, drive a bus, dress up and perform, and dig for fossils all in one afternoon! The fall exhibit is Destination: Space and it runs through March 8. Changing Gallery is closed March 8-30.

Wednesday, March 25: Little Picasso Family Art Center – Make a “paint” date every Wednesday (11:00am – 3:00pm) at the Museum for lots of messy time exploring color and texture! There are easels, washable paints, brushes and paint smocks ready for little artists to use. This is a drop in art studio and subject to change. All programs free with paid admission (Kids and Adults $8, La Habra residents $7, Kids Under 2 Free).

Bubblefest 2015 runs March 28 – April 12, 2015. Don’t miss the return of Orange County’s most astounding spring break bubble spectacular! LEGO Travel Adventure runs January 17 – May 10, 2015. Embark on a travel adventure with LEGO at the Discovery Cube Orange County! You can go anywhere over land, sea, and air by creating extraordinary vehicles to take you where you want to go! To go on a travel adventure to exotic locations, you need to think creatively, plan, and build vehicles to move through all types of terrain, including mountains, oceans, jungles, deserts and more! National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers runs January 17 – May 3, 2015. Travel to the wildest places on earth in National Geographic Presents: Earth Explorers. This hands-on exhibition allows you to let your imagination run wild as you become an explorer of the world, taking part in adventures to discover new science and technology. Come follow National Geographic’s explorers as they venture off to dangerous and remote parts of the world!

The newly renovated Kidseum is high-tech and interactive with a focus on its new mission, “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art and archaeology. Be sure to check out the new “Glow Cave” with its fun art making activities, ride the magical Wells Fargo stagecoach through time in the “Green Screen Time Machine,” and explore archaeology like never before in our new Archaeology Lab. There will be a lot of visual stimulation and engaging education with new smart tables, smart boards and computers.

Saturday, March 28: Mariam’s Easter Parade Live Storytelling – Author Marianne Markarian and illustrator, Margaret Markarian Wasielewski, will read from their new children’s book, Mariam’s Easter Parade, and share Armenian Easter traditions during the Live Storytelling events at the Bowers Kidseum on March 28 at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. They will also demonstrate Armenian egg-cracking contests and make ribbon wands with the children during the Live Storytelling event.

Saturday, March 28: Glow Cave Discoveries – Virtually explore the French caves of Lascaux on a smartboard, then visit the Glow Cave and create your own glowing cave painting to take home. Program runs 1:30 PM – 3 PM. Fee: Admission, plus $6 for every participating child. Members: Free admission; $6 for every participating child. Sunday, March 29: Time Travel Attire – Traveling isn’t complete without the right hat. Learn about the past and create your own ancient hat to wear. Then embark on an adventure through time on the Green Screen Time Machine. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Program runs 1:30 PM – 3 PM. Fee: Admission, plus $6 for every participating child. Spirit Kids – Cheer Classes presented by Pacific Coast Magic: Weekly every Friday, March 6th – 27th. Time: 11:00 – 11:30a.m. (class may run over, depending on children’s interest and ability). Specifically for:  Children 3 years of age and up; Grown-up supervision required

This March we have partnered with Pacific Coast Magic, an All-star Cheerleading company, to introduce our youngest cheer friends to this fun sport! Cheerleading is our most energetic class – not to mention the loudest! The tumbles, jumps, chants, and cheers gives your little one a healthy first step towards an active lifestyle. At the same time your child is learning teamwork, trust, and cooperation. Through the guidance of coaches from Pacific Coast Magic, your child’s skills and confidence will grow. Tumbles and movement teach coordination and balance, while the team environment builds trust. This will be a class you won’t want to miss!

Tuesday, March 24 – Friday, March 27: Guest Appreciation Week – Pretend City Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization which relies on the contributions of our guests to provide hands-on activities and programs to children and families. This week we’re recognizing the support of our guests with special discounted admission! All week long, guests will receive 50% off general admission beginning at 2:00p.m. Special Engaging Afternoon activities will highlight health and wellness for children. Daily activities will include story times, fitness fun games, and nutritious snack times. Activities run 2:00pm – 5:00pm. RSVP: Not required. Fee: Activities are included with museum admission (Adults and Child 1 and over: $12.50, Infant to 12 months: Free).  50% off general admission ($6.25) beginning at 2:00p.m. 

Wednesday, March 25: Celebrate Passover! – Model Matazh Bakery – Passover is right around the corner. Visit Pretend City to start your Passover celebration! Learn about this Jewish High Holiday by participating in the Matzah Bakery! Today, Silver Gan Israel Day Camp will share the traditions with all guests. Children will have a chance to dig into the dough as they:

  • Produce flour from wheat kernels, winnow, and separate the chaff from the grain.
  • Collect the grain into a wheat mill and grind it into flour.
  • Knead, roll, and bake the dough into a handmade matzah in the required amount of time.
  • Delight in taking home their very own freshly baked matzah, a holiday guide and a bakers hat.
