CHILL at the Queen Mary – FINAL DAYS JANUARY 8-11

The Queen Mary will once again be overtaken by a deep freeze for the third annual CHILL, opening on November 21. Experience the frozen magic that will bring holiday celebration, wonderment and North Pole temperatures to families across sunny Southern California. CHILL returns to The Queen Mary Nov. 21- Nov. 30, Dec. 2-7, Dec. 9 – Jan. 4 & Jan. 8-11. See website for ticket prices and deals.

An experience like no other, CHILL transforms over two million pounds of sparkling ice into larger than life hand carved colorful ice sculptures in the 14,000 square-foot Igloo called The Ice Kingdom, located inside the Queen Mary’s Dome, formerly home to the legendary Spruce Goose. The Ice Kingdom will feature a California holiday theme complete with breaking waves, dancing dolphins and a Surfing Santa. Get lost in the life size candy cane forest, explore the penguin village and slip down three ice slides off of a 30’ high replica of The Queen Mary.

CHILL welcomes back ice tubing with six lanes of glistening ice slides standing two stories tall and 100-feet long in front of the Ice Kingdom. Ice skate under the stars on the 6,000 square-foot ice skating rink with a view of the picturesque Queen Mary ship. A holiday village will offer gingerbread houses, holiday carolers, the decoration adorned Candy Lane and a visit with Santa Claus. CHILL will also feature nightly live entertainment, festive food and beverages and so much more.

Wednesday, January 7: Little Picasso Family Art Center – Make a “paint” date every Wednesday (11:00am – 3:00pm) at the Museum for lots of messy time exploring color and texture! There are easels, washable paints, brushes and paint smocks ready for little artists to use. This is a drop in art studio and subject to change. All programs free with paid admission (Kids and Adults $8, La Habra residents $7, Kids Under 2 Free).

The newly renovated Kidseum is high-tech and interactive with a focus on its new mission, “Igniting imagination through exploration,” stressing the excitement of art and archaeology. Be sure to check out the new “Glow Cave” with its fun art making activities, ride the magical Wells Fargo stagecoach through time in the “Green Screen Time Machine,” and explore archaeology like never before in our new Archaeology Lab. There will be a lot of visual stimulation and engaging education with new smart tables, smart boards and computers.

In January Kidseum will be open only Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am – 4:00pm to accommodate school tours Tuesday through Friday.

Special Weekend Programs for children and adults! (included with admission). Admission is $6 for Ages 2 and Up, Under 2/Members are Free. Adult free admission with current Bowers Museum ticket stub.

Pretend City is here to help you reach your goals by promoting and offering fun activities, classes, and resources to help your family understand how to make sound food choices, integrate physical activity into your daily lives, and maintain mental well-being. Theme runs throughout the month of January.

Tuesday, January 6: Grand Opening of Veg-N-Out Cafe – Happy Chanukah! Visit us for the Grand Opening of the Veg-N-Out Café! Nestled in the fun and friendly Pretend City neighborhood, Veg-N-Out is a small pretend vegetarian restaurant bursting with delicious healthy foods. The Veg-N-Out Café uses only community supported agriculture making deliciously organic vegetarian meals with farm fresh produce from our trusted Pretend City Seeds of Change Farm. Activities run 10:00am – 4:00pm and are included with museum admission ($12.50 for ages 1 and up).

Thursday, January 8: Bubble Bash – Celebrate National Bubble Bath Day! – Splish, splash, it’s time for a bath! There’s no better way to stay clean than with a bubble bath. Proper hygiene is just one way to make sure you are staying healthy, and a bubble bath helps us stay clean and germ free. Today we celebrate National Bubble Bath day! Not only is a bath a great way to unwind and stay clean, but there are some great teachable moments that can happen in the bathtub for little ones. Today’s activities will serve as inspiration for some of the fun you can have at home:

  • Smart Art: Rainbow Soap Foam Bubbles Sensory Play – Your children will have a bubble blast exploring color during our sensory play time! Giant bubbly, puffy, rainbow soap foam fun will teach your children color concepts from naming to blending.
  • Sensational Story Time: Bubbles, Bubbles will get your child excited for their next bath time. Your child will have fun making sounds with us that describe the process of getting clean. Join us after the story time for a bubble print art activity.
  • Simple Science: Bubble Bath Eruptions – Your child hasn’t seen anything like this before! Join us for this simple science activity where your little one can play with some erupting bubbles while learning the science behind the reaction.
  • Silly Science: No bubble bath is complete without the classic rubber ducky! Waddle on over to the Marina all day to participate in some rubber ducky fun. Rubber duck races will give your child the opportunity to learn about wind and water currents.

Activities run 10:00am – 4:00pm and are included with museum admission ($12.50 for ages 1 and up). Bring in your rubber ducky with you to receive $1 off general admission!

Friday, January 9: Way to Play Day, A Package of Learning! – How serious are you about play? Play is essential to development because it contributes to the cognitive, physical, social, and emotional well-being of children and youth. Play also offers an ideal opportunity for parents to engage fully with their children. Join us for a fun Way To Play Day, which is specially designed to assist parents in finding answers to questions about their child’s development through play. With our Way To Play Adventure Guide, there are activities to enhance your play at Pretend City. Activities run 10:00am – 3:00pm and are included with museum admission ($12.50 for ages 1 and up).
