It’s a Wonderful Time of The Year for Whale Watching

On Friday the 13th, we embarked on the new Harbor Breeze Cruise TRIUMPHANT for a morning of Whale Watching with the experts from the Aquarium of the Pacific.  In the past week the staff of the Aquarium and Harbor Breeze Cruises have spotted a sperm wale, a pod of more than 20 Orcas (killer whales) and humpback and grey whales.  So the experts are saying this could be the winter of the whale.  There is a lot of migrating going on and it is the perfect time to embark on a two hour cruise and see some unbelievable sights.

While we did not see Orcas on our cruise we did see very rare pods of dolphins, THOUSANDS of them.  Captain Dan said he had only seen that amount of dolphins one other time in his 20+ year career, so it was quite an amazing day.  We also saw a few grey whales and what an amazing mammal she was.  The staff from the Aquarium and Harbor Breeze explained in great detail why so many species are heading to the Southland.  It was a fabulous experience, and I was thrilled my son was there to learn and see something that really he wouldn’t have gotten the full effect of in school.

After our amazing morning on the wonderful vessel seeing so many creatures of the sea, we walked over to the Aquarium of the Pacific to explore the newly redesigned, award-winning Wales: Voices in the Sea multimedia exhibit. The redesign, featuring new state of the art interactive exhibit technology and the latest research on blue and grey whales made possible by the Pacific Life Foundation.

The Public can visit the Aquarium of the Pacific and embark on Harbor Breeze Crusies for a two and a half hour whale watch excursion up to the Palos Verdes Peninsula daily at 12:00 and 3:00 pm.  The Gray Whale Watch Combo ticket is available for purchase on-site at the Aquarium of the Pacific and may be purchased in advance by calling 562-590-3100.  Prices are $45.95 ages 12 and up and $30.95 per child.

The day was great, my son enjoyed the experience and learned a lot, and is still talking about it.  What more could a mom ask for?

We attended the event as a guest of the Aquarium of the Pacific
