Your 2013 OC Fair Line-up of Free Family Fun

2013 OC Fair

The 2013 OC Fair is almost here.  From July 12-August 11, guests have a wide range of free free exhibits, demonstrations, contests and events available to enjoy with their fair ticket.

OC Fair Foodies

New this year, the 2013 OC Fair has taken its most recognizable and edible features and made a new Fair family of food-themed characters. Scoop (ice cream cone), Carl (cotton candy), Olivia (orange), Mike (bacon-wrapped turkey leg) and more foodies will be featured as graphics and guest can also purchase their favorites in plush toys and costumed characters throughout the Fair.

Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders

Instead of bearded ladies and fire-breathing acrobats, creepy crawlies like millipedes, tarantulas, scorpions and other creatures are the featured attractions. This new, free exhibit puts a fun twist on the traditional circus with a variety of exotic creatures from around the world alive and on view.

Summer in the Cities

The OC Fair isn’t just about rides, food and cute animals, it’s also about community and this year it is showcasing what makes its home, Orange County, so amazing. This multi-faceted celebration features a free nightly video presentation of photographs that celebrate Orange County…some of the photos are taken and submitted by county residents and then displayed on a 40-foot screen in The Hangar with accompanied music and pyrotechnics.

Sand Sculpture

The 2013 OC Fair is excited to welcome back the popular sand castle designers and builders!  They will carve a larger-than-life, Fair-themed sand sculpture out of three hundred tons of sand…live…while the fair is running.  Be sure to stop by to see it!

Culinary Demonstrations

Culinary professionals will provide free demonstrations and discuss everything from vegan cuisine to bacon candy and more. Please check the OC Fair event schedule for dates and times. Celebrity chefs Jaime Martin del Campo and Ramiro Arvizu of La Casita Mexicana Restaurant in Los Angeles and Michael Chiarello of Bottega in Napa Valley and Coqueta in San Francisco will offer demonstrations in The Hangar on July 20 and August 1 respectively.

Fun With Food

The Fair’s food exhibits go against the rule “don’t play with your food” with amazing sculptures and displays made out of fruit, vegetables, and sugar. Food sculpture Chef Ray Duey will transform an average melon into a stunning work of art. Sugar master Shaile Socher will take sugar and turn it into sweet displays of edible flowers. Back by popular demand, the chocolate exhibit will again entice and educate with a historical timeline and the Fair’s collection of vintage memorabilia. Chocolate- and confection-making demonstrations and gourmet sweets will be available for purchase.

Featured Artists

World-renowned artists specializing in painting, sculpting, photography, woodworking and other fine arts will display their award-winning pieces and hold demonstrations and question-and-answer sessions.

Blue Ribbon Greatness

See who submitted the best in fine art, photography, floral arranging, quilting, cake-decorating, table-setting, home grown fruit and vegetable contests and other Fair competitions this year.

Fair Favorites

The Fair will also feature free-with-admission favorites like All-Alaskan Racing Pigs, Russell Brothers Circus, Comedy Hypnotist Mark Yuzuik, Peking Acrobats, livestock displays, a petting zoo and more.

The 2013 OC Fair, themed Come & Get It, is July 12 – August 11.  Running for 23 days, the popular Super Pass, which offers the passholder 23 days of admission, is a smart option.  It is available for purchase online at from the onsite Box Office.

The OC Fair & Event Center is located off the 405 and 55 freeways at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa. For more information, please visit or call (714) 708-1500.
